Upgrade will not start

We currently run Serverscheck version 8.2.4 on a Windows 2008 x64 server and would like to upgrade to version 8.5.0. Although I have a good internet connection, when I attempt to upgrade Serverscheck from the shortcut in the start menu, I recieve the following message:

Could not download update information.

Update information file #1

Error code returned by server.

Possible causes:

1. You are not connected to the Internet. Please connect to the Internet and try again.

2. The Internet server that you are trying to connect to is not available at this time. Please try again later.

Any suggestions?

    Dear Customer,

You can complete a manual upgrade. Please follow the procedure located at: http://kb.serverscheck.com/index.php?page=index_v2&id=12&c=5.

    Thank yoU!
  • When doing a backup of the files stated in the KB document, I noticed that the graph-errors.log file is 1.86GB. Is this normal? If not, how should I proceed?

    Dear Customer,

You can safely delete that file.

    Thank you!
  • After upgrade, all my URLEXISTS monitors are failing with an error of: ActiveX component can't create object

Can you tell me what I need to change?

Is this just happening with IE or is it any other browser that it is happening with / is IE still installed on the system?
  • It happens with all browsers. It is not due to the page being displayed, it has to do with the check itself. The monitor fails with that message as the error.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
is IE installed on the system or has it been removed? What version of IE are you running?
  • See screenshots below

Can you verify that the Winhttp.dll is still installed in the c:windowssystem32 directory?
  • Yes, it is.

There is a problem with your DLL as it can't be launched. You might try doing a manual upgrade again of the software but the error message indicates that it can't be called.

Could you run the check in debug:

    1) Download following file and save it in the agents subdirectory of your main ServersCheck installation

    http://files.serverscheck.net/debug/urltest.conf

    2) Open it with notepad and modify the first line to match the URL you'd like to test

    3) Go to the Windows command prompt in the agents subdirectory

    4) Launch following command:

    url_check urltest

    5) Reply with the output of the file urltest.log
  • I will test this as soon as possible and post results
  • When I try to do this test, I get no results. I also tried to output it to a txt file, the file ends up blank as well. Is there something I am doing wrong?
  • I have also re-registered winhttp.dll in an attempt to resolve the issue. I still get the same result.
  • When I go to create a new URLEXISTS monitor and click the TEST SETTINGS button, the check fails with the ActiveX error message. If I click the test settings button and then click it again without waiting for the test to complete, it is successful. Not sure if this is helpful, but wanted to include it.

Try installing the software on a different system and move the configuration:

    http://kb.serverscheck.com/index.php?page=index_v2&id=11&c=5
  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software twice and followed the upgrade KB article to the letter. I am still having the exact same problem with Serverscheck version 8.5.1. All of the checks related to http are failing.

Is this on a new system as suggested in previous post or still on the same system?
  • This is on the same system. We do not have a spare system with enough resources to run our current configuration. This is also the same system that was previously running Serverscheck 8.2.4 last week and all checks were working properly.

8.2.4 is no different than 8.5.0 in respect to the URLEXIST check type or any other check types. Nothing changed - not a single line of code.

Try installing it on your pc or laptop.

The WINHTTP.dll giving the error is a Windows component part of your OS.
  • I have resolved the issue. I needed to re-register the winhttp.dll file located in C:WindowsSysWOW64 as this directory contains the CORRECT winhttp.dll file used for Serverscheck. Last week, I re-registered the winhttp.dll file in C:WindowsSystem32 which is only used for 64 bit applications. Thanks!
  • After all my monitors are back up, Serverscheck is still reporting that three are down in the upper right hand corner. When I click on it, the list is blank. Can you point me in the right direction on how to correct this?

This was a bug solved since then. Monitors not running (Paused) would shown in top stats but not in list.

Release 8.5.1 takes care of that.

    http://upgrade.serverscheck.net/monitoring_software/s-server.exe
  • I am already running version 8.5.1 but still have 3 monitors showing as failed in the upper right hand corner display. All of my monitors are up, only one is paused.
