SMS Alert

[Deleted User][Deleted User]
Hello,

I am currently evaluating ServersCheck and I have a problem with SMS Alerts. I've setup a monitor and configured the Alert but it does not send the SMS message.

I can successfully recieve a SMS message if I use the "Test SMS" function but the monitor does not automatically send a message when its state changes.

I've looked at the wiki help page and from that I'm confident my setup is correct.

I'm sure there's something more I must do, but I've tried every option and it does not work. Is the SMS disabled for the evaluation version?

    Hello,

What kind of GSM modem are you using? The SMS is not disabled in the evaluation edition, most times it is a simple configuration error. Do you also have all applications that could be trying to access the modem closed?
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]
Thank you for your quick response, it's a good question you ask.

I have tested the modem with & without the the modem applications running and with & without the modem connected to the cellular network. In none of these cases has it worked.

I've also performed the Test SMS function as above and that is able to send the test message with or without the modem applications running.

My modem is the ZTE MF636.

Do following: run the alerting module in debug mode and simulate a failure on a check. This should trigger a SMS. We can then see from the debug log what the system did.

    To run in debug mode:

    http://wiki.serverscheck.com/index.php/Alerting_debug

Reply with the content of the debug.txt file once the SMS alerting should have been performed.

    Hello,

I have perfomed the debug as indicated. The resulting debug file is shown below:

Is something sent to the console window as output instead of the debug file?
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]
Yes, there is verbose output in the s-graphs and the monitor_manager windows.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
No in the s-alerts window. There is only one process of the s-alerts.exe running?
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]
Correct! no output to the s-alerts console window. It looks like it's logging to the degug file.

I can see the debug.txt file created in the ServerCheck main directory when I enter the s-alerts.exe > debug.txt command.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
Run the s-alerts without the "> debug.txt" command

It is not showing anything regarding an alert or so
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]
OK, without the "> debug.txt" option the output is to the console. I have copied the output below.

You can see the alert is activated but the SMS message is still not recieved by the user.

Try putting the SMS number in the international format +447971834XXXX

What is the maxumum number of alerts in the evaluation edition?

I understood the evaluation edition is 10 monitors and I have obtained the licence for an additional 20 monitors so that is 30 monitors?

I have now realised that this failing alert is monitor number 21 which is being tested with SMS. The previous 20 have not been tested with SMS until now and they seem to send to be sending alerts.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
The evaluation edition is limited to 20 monitors in total
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]
OK so my licence file is not 20 "additional" monitors, as it says in my licence email, it's to a maximum of 20.

This information needs to be clearer.

Thank you for your help and assistance.

    Best regards

    Winston
