ServersCheck SMS & Email

fdepasqualefdepasquale
I am attempting to get SMS and Email reports working with the ServerCheck software.

I have chosen ClickaTell for my SMS provider, I performed a test from their homepage to my mobile it and worked correctly.

I'm located in Australia, country code: 613

First SMS:

I entered my HTTP API ID that I created on the clickatell website and also my username and password into the SMS & Pager setting of ServerCheck.

I then modified a default rule and entered an invalid webpage address "3432432" for example. I also setup DOWN ALERTS to send me an SMS to my mobile number as soon as the ping to the webpage address failed.

Nothing has come through, so I'm not sure what to try from here; I've tried entering my mobile number with and without the leading "0" and with and without the country code in front as well. Please help.

Now, EMAIL:

I ran through the initial configuration wizard, and it picked up a setting for my internal mail server, but the setting that it picked up is INCORRECT, how can I over-ride the setting and manually specify what my internal mail server is?

FYI: I'm 100% sure its incorrect as it not only displayed to me what it thought it was, but also the email notification does not work either.

Thanks.

    1/ SMS:

If you don't receive the SMS, then probably either one of following is true:

    - incorrect settings

    - firewall or other prevents monitoring service from connecting to the Internet

    - no credits

    Try to execute following url:

    http://api.clickatell.com/http/sendmsg?api_id=1&user=demo&password=demo&to=123456789012

    3&text=initial+test+message

Then go to www.clickatell.com; login and click on the HTTP API. Go to reports, and check for any error message

2/ Email settings: as per help file, mail server settings can be changed from internal (this is the built-in mail server) to your own mail server:

    Hi,

    I do have credits.

I ran that URL you gave me and recieved the following error:

    ERR: 001, Authentication failed

If this indicates a firewall port, which one do I need to open?

** Or does the authetntication error related to the user and password you've got listed in the URL?

    re: Email

Going from the instructions, I need to manually enter information in the Outgoing SMTP Relay which is actually information about my internal server ....

Not sure which specific username and password it will want here?

    1. Authentication failed:

This is an error returned by ClickATell and indicate that you are using incorrect settings.

    Please verify with ClickATell support

    2. Some outgoing mail servers do require a username & password. If yours doesn't require, then don't fill in any values for username and password.

Ok lets try and resolve one problem at a time.

    http://api.clickatell.com/http/sendmsg?api_id=2712951&user=myusername&password=mypassword&to=61410987645&text=testing

I run the test above with my specfic information and it worked perfectly and I recieved the SMS on my mobile no problems. I can even see that one of the credits on the Clickatell website went down after I recieved that message on my mobile

I have checked, double checked & triple checked the information I have entered into the SMS & Pager setting of ServerCheck, the API ID number is correct, the username is correct, the password is correct.

I double checked the downalert I created and its fine and my mobile number is entered under the SMS&Pager section for the down alert for two different rules. I've also made sure the Rule itself will fail immediatley by entering in an invalid website address (have tried valid as well)

The rules I've created are both failing and so I should be recieving an SMS notification.

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

If all your settings are correct, then let me ask you following questions:

1/ You are not running a proxy server on the system?

2/ Are you running a personal firewall on the system?

3/ Are you running an AV software on the system?

4/ Has the Monitoring Service network rights (especially outgoing HTTP)?

It seems to me that it is unable to connect to the remote server for some reason.

    Hi, I've resolved the problem.

Where you specify the "Alert When:" it had to be changed to "On all down cycles"

Seems like a simple fix but was immediatley obvious.

    Thanks.
