Excessive VM usage crashes machine

We've come across this issue twice now.
The 15 monitoring_rule.exe processes consume 250mb+ of virtual memory each and the system just grinds to a halt.
When the system is rebooted the virtual memory starts off at approx 20mb, but after only 30mins the virtual memory usage builds up to over 40mb for each process.
System information is as follows,
