Virtual PC

In the systems requirements section it says: "It is recommended to run a monitoring software on a dedicated computer"

Can SC be successfully run on a Virtual PC system with plenty of RAM, or are there issues involved? With Microsoft's virtual PC software currently free of charge it would make sense to use it if it doesn't degrade perfomance.

I am looking at the idea of having an XP PC dedicated to various unmanned tasks SC being one of them. I was thinking of a 3Ghz CPU and 4Gb of ram.

If it is feasible, would a separate network card for SC be beneficial in this scenario?

Thanks.

On one of our demo servers is a virtual server with SWsoft's Virtuozzo installed.

ServersCheck runs fine on that system but virtualization has some consequences:

1/ you share resources with other virtual servers; less processing power available thus less checks being performed a minute

2/ another virtual instance can affect the availability of the physical system (causing a crash)

    Hope this helps.

Thanks - that makes sense. We might try it and see what happens.

With the price of PCs at the level it is today it isn't hard to justify a separate PC for each programme that we wish to run. It was more the case of keeping it all in one place.

    We will proceed with caution.

    Thanks again.
